What construction method are your shoes made with?Updated a year ago

We use four types of footwear construction methods:

Mounted construction

Most of our footwear is made from mounted construction, unless otherwise stated please assume that this is the construction method..

The uppers are bonded to the outsoles with a strong vegan glue.

We do not stitch the outsoles to the uppers (they are not Blake or strobel construction)

This means that it is harder to replace the outsoles though it is possible to do so on some models depending on the style cobbler you take them to. Sometimes it is not possible to replace an outsole because of the style. It is best to check directly with your local cobbler to see if this is something they can do.

Goodyear Welted

If one of our models is made from Goodyear Welt construction we will state this in its name and provide information in the product description.

Because of the construction method, all of our Goodyear Welted styles can have their outsoles easily replaced. You can easily re-sole our Goodyear welted models at any good cobbler. They are made using a solid rubber outsole, a commonly stocked item. You can use the filter on the category page to see just Goodyear models, or type Goodyear into the search box.

Injection moulded

Most of our WVSport models are made from injection moulded construction. This means the outsoles are welded onto the uppers, creating a very strong bond.

Some companies will help you resole and repair sports shoes

Strobel construction

Strobel is used for most athletic shoes as it allows more flexibility and is lighter weight.

You will see it in some of our WVSport trainers,

The upper on a Strobel shoe is sewn to a fabric bottom making a sock.

A special Strobel machine is then used to stitch together the uppers and the bottom using a Strobel stitch.
